Moose Brothers and Sisters,
I would like to welcome the new board to the 2019/2020 year. As many of you know most of us have been on the board for a year in different positions. We set high goals for last year and accomplished many of our tasks.
The major one we did not complete is the parking lot. We are not industry dirt people, but we are committed to resolving this in the coming year. Poor choices of the past and repair delays from previous years have us in trouble with California Fish and Wildlife as well as the local DA. The original engineering had some steep quotes for repair. We have narrowed down our options, but the resolve is still a costly issue. If you know anyone with experience in earthwork, trucking, grading or engineering, please have them contact a board member.
When I joined the Moose there was a great atmosphere in the Social Quarters. I often tell people it was like walking into an episode of Cheers. We did fun events like the horse races on Prime Rib nights. Mick and Sandy helped me bring this back at the last Prime Rib night and a great time was had by all. Surprise meals on days not posted in the calendar will be back (These are typically a serve until itís gone, delicious low-cost meal.) You may see a live band on occasion, wine events, cooking competitions, game or card nights, ETC.
I would like to encourage you all to volunteer more. Take on a dinner night, build a cook crew, join in on an existing crew, help out on clean up days, share your specialty in trades we may need, baking goodies or whatever you can do to help. This is your lodge and itís ran by all volunteers.
Please invite new members to join because it is vital for survival of the lodge. Where else can you get a great meal on a Friday night for $11 to $15? Although women are not direct members of the 545 they are valued members of our fraternity. They are welcome additions too.
Lastly, I would like to thank my wife Valerie for supporting me in taking on this new role and the lodge for believing in my abilities to move us forward.Cheers to an exciting new year!
